Limescale Removal

Project Name – Limescale and calcite removal on a highway sewer
Equipment used – Brunhilde and Bruni Mini
Pipe diameter – 150-225mm

Our equipment can bring the pipework back to its former glory without the need for costly and disruptive excavations

The Problem

A major highways network was experiencing flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.  An inspection of the carriageway drainage had found years of limescale and calcite build up within the pipework.  This restriction meant that the system could not handle the flow of water.

The Solution

Our client had been considering excavating, as traditional jetting could not remove the limescale.  The severity of the build up over 200+ metres of pipe also meant the milling robots would not be able to tackle it.  We deployed Bruno Mini and Brunhilde to address the issue.  The two robots meant we could tackle both affected diameters with ease and progress through the pipe and an impressive rate.

The Outcome

We successfully cleared all affected pipework during night closures on the highway, restoring full flow to the system without affecting the local area.  The host pipe was brought back to its installation condition by breaking the limescale into manageable pieces which could then be removed via jetting works.
